My Teaching Philosophy

“Part of our formal education should be training in empathy. Imagine how different the world would be if, in fact, that were 'reading, writing, arithmetic, empathy”
- Neil De Grasse Tyson

A quality education is guided by values, student-centered, culturally responsive, and empowers students to become passionate life-long learners and solve the problems of the future. How can a teacher provide this excellent education in a rapidly changing society of the 21st-century?

I am committed to the belief that all learning experiences should be engaging, student-centered, authentic, and focused on shaping 21st century, lifelong learners. I strive to meaningfully integrate service learningtechnology, project-based learning, and design thinking regularly into curriculum and assessments. Implementing these not only sparks student creativity and confidence, but also hones critical thinking, collaboration, and communication. Empathy is the cornerstone of the design process and I aim to foster it in all of my learners. These skills are vital in a 21st-century classroom. I believe in learning by doing and coach students through the learning process with helpful, specific and kind feedback. All lessons I create aim to foster a love of learning, reach different learning styles, and allow children to express mastery in multiple ways.

I maintain that a teacher needs to form meaningful relationships with students. Because I strive to do this, I am able to recognize a student’s strengths, love them despite their mistakes, and have unending confidence in their ability to succeed. All children are capable of learning and reaching their full potential. I genuinely care for every child and I am dedicated to helping all students achieve their personal best in all areas, no matter the challenges. With teacher support, students are motivated to work harder, take risks in learning, and explore their abilities confidently.

I believe that children have a right to be safe, confident, and comfortable as they learn. I am committed to fostering a nurturing classroom family in which all students are valued, respected, and safe. A classroom community thrives with consistent classroom management, a strong social and emotional curriculum, and a stimulating learning environment. It is my goal as an effective teacher to manage my classroom with love, logic, and reflective learning through Responsive Classroom. In my classroom, we work as a team to solve problems.  I strive to teach students leadership skills, Growth Mindset, and good moral values and create a supportive, tight-knit classroom community.
